Michael Miu is a Hong Kong actor and one of TVB's "Five Tigers," known for The Legend of the Condor Heroes (1983) and the Line Walker franchise.
Biography
Michael Miu was born Miu Kiu-wai (苗僑偉) on June 18, 1958, in Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China, and moved to Hong Kong at age five to join his father, a merchant mariner. He left school before graduating to work as a carpenter after his father was diagnosed with cancer, and joined TVB's Artiste Training Academy in September 1979.
He made his acting debut in The Adventurer's (1980) after a cameo appearance in The Bund the same year, and was promoted alongside Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Felix Wong and Kent Tong as one of TVB's "Five Tigers" in the early 1980s. He played the villain Yeung Hong in The Legend of the Condor Heroes (1983) and starred opposite Barbara Yung in The Fearless Duo (1984), one of the highest-rated dramas of that year.
Miu left TVB in 1987 to run an eyewear business, which he sold to Luxottica in 2002 amid an economic downturn. He returned to acting in the police drama The Academy (2005) and later reprised the role of Cheuk Hoi across the Line Walker television series and film trilogy (2014–2020), winning Best Actor in a Leading Role at the TVB Star Awards Malaysia in 2017 for Line Walker: The Prelude.
He married actress Jaime Chik in 1990, having first met her in 1981; the couple have two children, Phoebe and Murphy Miu, both of whom live in Vancouver, Canada.
