Synopsis

Namgung Ho is an assistant manager at Hunmin Confectionery, easy with everyone at work and careful about how much of his past he lets anyone see. Lee Mi-do is a film director whose career stalled somewhere she cannot quite name. They have been together for ten years, long enough that the question is no longer whether they love each other but what the word still covers after that long.

Both of them have reached the same dead end and neither will say it first. Ho makes a proposal meant to settle the matter, and it settles nothing. Mi-do meets someone who reminds her what being wanted feels like. Instead of stepping around what is happening to them, the two make a pact: walk into the temptation, face it, and see what is left standing on the other side.

Han Tae-seung and Park Su-a are the people who walk in. Across fourteen episodes the four of them work out whether choosing each other again is love, habit or self-preservation. Around them are Mi-do's brother Lee Yeong-do and her mother Ma Suk-hui, who have their own views on a decade that has produced no wedding and no obvious ending.

The short version, for anyone deciding whether to start it: this is a fourteen-episode Korean drama on KBS2, two episodes a week on Saturday and Sunday nights, running from 12 September to 1 November 2026. Seo Kang Joon plays Ho and Ahn Eun Jin plays Mi-do, with Lee Joo Ahn as Han Tae-seung and Jo A-ram as Park Su-a. Outside Korea it streams on Prime Video with English subtitles, not on Netflix. It is an original screenplay by Yoo Soo-ji rather than a webtoon or novel adaptation, and it is Seo Kang Joon's first series since Undercover High School.

Why it still gets watched

Its ratings and its reach are telling two different stories. On KBS2 it is running between 2.5 and 2.8 per cent, which is modest for a weekend slot. Outside Korea it reached seventh worldwide on FlixPatrol's television chart and the top ten in thirty-five countries, first in Indonesia and Thailand, and Good Data placed it fourth in Korean drama buzz in its opening week while the numbers stayed flat.

The reason is the premise. Most romance dramas ask whether two people will get together; this one starts at year ten and asks what the word still covers once they already have. The heart-rate scene in episode two is the whole show in one image: they answer every question about each other correctly, and their pulses go down when they touch.

Spoilers ahead

The moments people come back for, and where to find them. Episode numbers and outcomes are named, so come back to this one after watching if you would rather not know.

  1. The bar, and the game that ends in "you're too bad at this" Episode 1

The drama opens on Ho sitting down beside Mi-do in a bar and chatting her up as though they had never met. It runs long enough to be convincing, and then they kiss. Mi-do breaks it off with a flat "let's stop, you're terrible at this", and the scene turns out to have been a game a couple of ten years plays to feel something new. It tells you the premise without a line of exposition.

  2. A break-up on the day he meant to propose Episode 1

Ho has spent the episode getting ready to propose. Mi-do ends it that same day. The timing is the point: neither of them is reacting to the other, they have simply arrived at opposite conclusions about the same ten years.

  3. The heart-rate game Episode 2

At a couples' event the two answer every question about each other correctly, which is what a decade buys you. Then the monitors show their heart rates going down when they are physically close. The production put this scene at the top of its own list of the drama's three most absorbing moments, and it is the show's thesis in one image.

  4. The morning call they forget to stop making Episode 2

The morning after the break-up Ho makes the call he has made every morning for years, and both of them trade the greeting they always trade before either remembers they are not together any more. Habit outlasting the relationship is the show's quietest and cruellest joke.

  5. First snow, and two people who do not come home Episode 4

The anniversary of the day it first snowed when they met. Ho ends up spending it pulling his junior colleague Su-a out of trouble; Mi-do spends it at Tae-seung's office and cannot be reached. Neither has done anything, and both have crossed something. It is where the first act ends.

Visual design and costumes

  • Shot close, on purpose. Director Hwang Seung-gi described the approach as examining the feelings of a moment under a microscope. In practice that means the camera stays on faces through exchanges other dramas would cover in dialogue, and lets a reaction run longer than the line that caused it.

  • Ordinary rooms. Ho works at a confectionery company and Mi-do is a director between projects, so the drama lives in offices, small flats and the spaces around them rather than in the wealth a weekend slot often reaches for.

Themes and messages

  • Love that has turned into habit. The drama's question is not whether Ho and Mi-do love each other but what the word still describes after ten years, when the answer arrives out of routine rather than out of wanting.

  • Temptation faced rather than avoided. The pact the two make is the engine of the story: instead of stepping around what is happening to them, they agree to walk into it and find out what survives. The drama treats that as a decision with consequences, not as a device.

  • Several kinds of love, not one. Hwang Seung-gi has said the drama is about more than the romance at its centre, which is why Mi-do's mother and brother are given weight of their own rather than used as obstacles.

  • Stalled lives. Mi-do is a director whose career stopped moving and Ho is carrying a past he does not discuss at work. The relationship is where both of those things surface, and the drama is as interested in the stalling as in the romance.

  • What is not said. Both lead actors and the director describe the script as carrying its feeling through looks and pauses rather than dialogue, which makes silence one of the show's recurring subjects as well as its method.

Interesting facts

  • Seo Kang Joon took the part for what the script does not say: he said the characters' feelings are rarely stated out loud, and that carrying them through looks and small actions was what made the project worth doing.

  • The director wanted faces, not speeches. Hwang Seung-gi described his approach as putting the feelings people have in moments of love under a microscope, which is why so much of the drama sits on expressions rather than dialogue.

  • It is not only about romance. Hwang has said the drama looks at several kinds of love, not just the one between its leads, which is the reason the families around Ho and Mi-do get as much room as they do.

  • Lee Joo Ahn signed on because he did not understand his character. He said Han Tae-seung only made sense to him after working through the scripts, and that the puzzle is what drew him in.

  • Seo Kang Joon on his co-star: he said he could read Mi-do's emotions in Ahn Eun Jin's eyes, and that she was completely Mi-do on set rather than an actor playing her.

  • A line borrowed from the director's own work. In episode 1 an actor in Mi-do's film, played by Oh Dong-min, says he debuted in a film called Into the Ring. That is the title of Hwang Seung-gi's earlier KBS drama, in which Oh Dong-min also appeared; Park Sung Hoon, its lead, turns up for a special appearance in episode 3.
