Bicheonmu
Synopsis
Bicheonmu opens in the last years of the Goryeo dynasty, when the birth of Namgung Jinha to the swordsman Yoo Jang-ok and his wife Moo Su-yeon should be a moment of pure joy. His family carries the Bicheon Shingeom, a martial arts technique guarded across generations, but riders are already closing in on their home. The massacre that follows leaves the household destroyed, and Jinha survives only because his father's ally, Gwak Jeong, raises him in secret and later trains him in the family's sword technique.
As a young man, Jinha falls for Seolli, daughter of the warlord Tarugha, the very man behind his family's destruction years earlier. Their romance survives a forced betrothal between Seolli and Jinha's childhood friend Junkwang, a nighttime escape from Tarugha's household, and a desperate flight through the mountains. When soldiers finally catch up with them, Seolli agrees to marry Junkwang so that Jinha's life will be spared, a bargain that sets the tragedy of the rest of the story in motion.
Thirteen years pass, and Jinha resurfaces as Jaharang, a swordsman so changed by war and grief that even Seolli's own son fails to recognize him. Old ties to Junkwang and to the scheming Sajun resurface as Jaharang closes in on Tarugha's successor, Jin Wooryang, while Yeojin's unreturned feelings for Jaharang push the story toward poison, betrayal and sacrifice on the way to a final reckoning between all of them.
Bicheonmu ran for 14 episodes on SBS, airing in same-day pairs every other Friday from 1 February to 21 March 2008. It was a Korean-Chinese co-production, pairing lead actors Joo Jin Mo and Park Ji Yoon with a cast drawn from both countries, and it completed its run at 14 episodes with no confirmed sequel.
