Synopsis

Cha Eun-woo VR Concert: Memories (차은우 브이알 콘서트 : 메모리즈) is a 2025 interactive virtual reality concert film starring Cha Eun-woo of ASTRO, made with the VR concert company AMAZE. It opened on 18 June 2025 at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall and CGV Yeonnam in Seoul, where each seat has its own headset and controller, and the Korean release runs 58 minutes.

The Cha Eun Woo concert 2025 audiences paid for is built as a romance fantasy, not a stage show. The viewer is cast as his partner. Over the hour the story moves from a first meeting through love and a breakup to what is left after it, and at set points the viewer picks an object, a photograph or a place. Those picks decide which scenes play, how he reacts and how it ends, so two people in neighbouring seats can walk out having seen different endings. The marketing line was "Your choice, our ending."

Between the story scenes he sings. Interaksyon's review of the later cinema cut lists U & I, Fu*king Great Time, You're the Best, Stay and Memories. The scenes around the songs follow him after he has split from a girlfriend called Roha: he tries to call and text her and goes back over a beach date, a birthday and a Christmas together. Several shots are filmed from the viewer's point of view, with Cha speaking straight into the lens.

AMAZE shot the live-action footage in a single day and spent three to four months on post-production, its chief executive Lee Seung-joon told the Korea Times in July 2025. After Seoul the film went to Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Mexico, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia, 21 cities in all. In September 2025 CGV released a flat-screen version, Cha Eun-woo: Memories in Cinemas, cut to 45 minutes for 2D, ScreenX, 4DX and Ultra 4DX screens. It reached cinemas after Cha had enlisted for military service on 28 July 2025.

Visual design and costumes

Cha was filmed in live action at 12K resolution, and most of what surrounds him was built with Unreal Engine visual effects instead of physical sets. Lee Seung-joon of AMAZE told the Korea Times in July 2025 that close to half of the visuals were made with AI tools, and that without them a film like this could cost tens of billions of won; with them, he said, the cost fell to under a tenth. The same paper's reviewer, Pyo Kyung-min, wrote in June 2025 that his image was recreated in enough detail to be hard to tell apart from the real person.

Themes and messages

CGV and AMAZE billed it as a romance fantasy about excitement, love, parting and memory. Fantagio said each choice changes the visuals and the emotional tone of the performance (Korea Times, June 2025). The title carries the idea: the viewer decides which memories of the relationship to revisit, and the ending follows from them.

Interesting facts

  • Small audience, big tickets. 2,279 people had seen it in Korea by 1 July 2025. AMAZE said that at its ticket price the takings matched a regular film with more than 8,000 admissions (Korea Times, 3 July 2025).
  • Two runtimes for one film. CGV lists the Korean VR release at 58 minutes, while the Japanese listing gives 47.
  • Something to take home. Every ticket at CGV came with a random photocard, and in the first week Seoul viewers could also pick up an A3 poster while stocks lasted (CJ CGV, May 2025).
  • Rated for language in Britain. The BBFC passed the cinema version for a UK release on 5 October 2025 and flagged strong language, a drunk character and breakup scenes.
  • Not for every stomach. The Korea Times reviewer Pyo Kyung-min cautioned in June 2025 that the headsets feel heavy and that the shifting viewpoint can cause motion sickness.
