Giant

Giant follows three Lee siblings, Kang-mo, Sung-mo, and Mi-joo, after their father is killed during a gold-smuggling robbery arranged by intelligence official Jo Pil-yeon and carried out with the reluctant help of family friend Hwang Tae-seob. Fleeing toward Seoul, the children are separated on the road; their mother dies in an accident along the way, and each is left to survive alone in a city with no place for them.

Kang-mo gets by as a shoeshine boy until Tae-seob, unaware of the family tie, takes him in. Sung-mo is picked up by a US Army unit and later recruited into South Korea's intelligence service, where he quietly works toward the man who killed his father. Mi-joo grows up as a household helper before chasing a singing career. For years none of the three know the others are alive, and each becomes entangled, without realizing it, with the family responsible for their father's death.

By the 1970s and 1980s the siblings have found one another again and turned toward the country's real-estate and construction boom, with Kang-mo building Han River Construction into a rival of Manbo Corporation, the firm controlled by Pil-yeon and Tae-seob. His relationship with Tae-seob's daughter Jung-yeon, and Mi-joo's relationship with Pil-yeon's son Min-woo, tangle love and revenge together, pulling both families into bidding wars, stock battles, and political scandal from opposite sides of the same fights.

The series sets its fictional feud against real chapters of the period, including the Samchung re-education camp, the Gwangju Uprising, and the Sampoong Department Store collapse. It ran for 60 episodes on SBS, airing every Monday and Tuesday from 10 May to 7 December 2010.
