Synopsis
My Dearest is set in Joseon during the Qing invasion of 1636, when the kingdom's nobility and commoners alike are thrown into war and displacement. At the center is Lee Jang-hyun, a nobleman who keeps everyone at a careful emotional distance until he meets Yoo Gil-chae, the daughter of a noble family, and finds himself drawn toward a sincerity he had avoided his whole life.
As the Qing army advances and Joseon's social order breaks down, Jang-hyun and Gil-chae's paths keep crossing amid the chaos of war, captivity and survival, their bond tested by class expectations and the demands each side of the conflict places on them. Around them, Confucian student Nam Yeon-joon and his fiancee Kyung Eun-ae, the pansori singer Ryang-eum, and the Qing princess Gak-hwa each carry storylines shaped by the same invasion, widening the drama into a portrait of a whole society under siege.
Namkoong Min stars as Lee Jang-hyun and Ahn Eun-jin as Yoo Gil-chae in a series inspired in part by Gone with the Wind, which aired in two parts totaling 21 episodes on SBS in 2023.
