Synopsis

Wave Makers spends its eight episodes inside the campaign office of a fictional Taiwanese political party, the Justice Party, in the run-up to a presidential election, following the staff who run the operation rather than the candidates who front it. Wen-fang Weng, assistant director of the party's public-relations campaign, works alongside colleagues including Chia-ching Chen as the election closes in and the party's message has to hold together under pressure.

When a harassment case surfaces inside the campaign, involving staffer Ya-ching Chang, who is also quietly managing an old affair with the opposition's running mate, the people running the operation have to decide how much they're willing to compromise, or spend, to protect the campaign's chances of winning. The series threads that case together with the party's stances on the death penalty, immigration, same-sex marriage and environmental policy, using the staff room rather than the podium as its vantage point on the election.

Wave Makers premiered globally on Netflix on April 28, 2023, and later aired on Taiwan's Public Television Service from October 28 to November 18, 2023, starring Hsieh Ying-xuan, Jag Huang and Gingle Wang.
