Synopsis

Four Hands, Two Sonatas is a tvN music drama that began on 29 August 2026 in the Saturday and Sunday 9:10 pm slot and streams worldwide on Netflix. Over 12 episodes it follows three classmates at Korea Arts High School through friendship, love, rivalry and growth, from their teenage years into adulthood as professional musicians. Netflix sums it up as two young pianists from completely different worlds who meet at an elite music high school.

Kang Pi-o (Song Kang) is the piano department's model student, a perfectionist with top grades and a prodigy's reputation. Music runs in his family: his grandfather Kang Seung-woon (Jung Jin Young) is a world-renowned conductor, and his mother Kang Ji-hye (Yoon Se Ah), a former ballerina, has built her life around his career.

Choi Jeong-yo (Lee Jun Young) arrives as the disruption. He is a natural talent who had walked away from music, and his return to the piano makes him Pi-o's rival. Hong Jae-in (Jang Gyu Ri), a viola major in the same year, completes the trio and has feelings for Pi-o. Kim Joo Heon plays Do Hyun-soo, the piano teacher who mentors them.

As the series moves toward its end, the rivalry turns into something darker. Tenasia reported on 2 October 2026 that the finale centres on Jeong-yo's revenge, tied to a kidnapping nine years earlier that left him unable to play professionally, and that the bond between the two pianists has become a mix of revenge and love-hate.

Park Hyun-seok directs from an original script by Shin Yi-won, and Studio Dragon, Studio N and Namoo Actors produce. The series marks Song Kang's return after his military service and, according to Wikitree, is Lee Jun Young's last work before enlistment.

Themes and messages

Effort against instinct. The central pairing sets a hard-working perfectionist against a natural who had given up, a contrast Netflix sums up as two pianists from completely different worlds.

Family as pressure. Pi-o grows up under a famous conductor grandfather and a mother who lives for his career, and the story treats that expectation as part of what drives him.

Rivalry that turns to revenge. Tenasia reported that by the final week the bond between the two leads had become revenge and love-hate, rooted in a kidnapping nine years earlier.
