Gong Yoo’s new drama is Netflix’s Tantara, due late 2026

Gong Yoo’s new drama is Tantara, a Netflix period series in which he plays Dong Gu, the childhood friend of Song Hye Kyo’s character Min Ja. Netflix has set it for the fourth quarter of 2026 without giving a date. Filming finished in January 2026, and no other drama or film has been announced for him after it.

Tantara with Song Hye Kyo: what it is about, and who is in it

Netflix’s title page lists the main cast as Song Hye Kyo, Gong Yoo, Kim Seol Hyun, Cha Seung Won and Lee Ha Nee. It is written by Noh Hee Kyung and directed by Lee Yoon Jung, who made Coffee Prince with Gong Yoo in 2007.

The story sits inside Korea’s music and broadcasting business between the 1960s and the 1980s. Song Hye Kyo’s Min Ja tries to make her way in it, Dong Gu goes in alongside her, and Cha Seung Won plays Gil Yeo, a composer at the top of that world. Shooting ran for about a year and ended on 10 January 2026, when Song Hye Kyo posted a photo of her script captioned as her last day at work.

When does Tantara come out?

Netflix has said the fourth quarter of 2026 and nothing narrower, and its title page shows only the year. A premiere date of 11 December 2026 has been repeated since February. The outlet that reported it in February attributed it to social media, and What’s on Netflix, in an update at the end of July, still treated it as a target rather than a confirmed day.

His agency, Management SOOP, announced in July his first Asia fan meeting tour, titled The Long Take. It opens in Yokohama on 4 October, moves through Bangkok, Jakarta, Macau and Manila, and ends in Seoul on 28 November. Nothing on screen has been announced beyond Tantara.
